About Joanne...

My name is Joanne and I am a Pharmacist by profession serving in the local community. When my son was born I used the HypnoBirthing techniques and had such a fantastic birth I wanted to share the experience with others. As a result I decided to train for - and received - the HypnoBirthing Institute's Practitioners qualifications. I am excited to be able to help women achieve a calm, natural and more comfortable birth.

About Heidi...

Heidi trained in HypnoBirthing after hearing about the great results HypnoBirthing mums experienced using the techniques. Heidi teaches pregnancy yoga, as well as postnatal mum and baby yoga, adult and children's yoga. She is also training in naturopathic nutrition. Heidi lives in Laxey and has attended the births of several of her 17 nephews and nieces. She is excited to be joining the Manx HypnoBirthing team and sharing the HypnoBirthing course with birthing families on the Island.

  • Labour and birthing time are considerably shorterer
  • Fewer surgical births
  • Higher number of comfortable and natural births without medical assistance
  • A high rate of success in assisting breech-presented babies to turn into appropriate birthing position with the use of posture and hypnosis (in a study done at the University of Vermont of 100 women at 37 to 40 weeks, there was a 81% success rate with hypnosis)
  • Calm and easy births allow mums to keep in high spirits and feel good after the birth
  • Once you have learned HypnoBirthing techniques you can use them again and again for your next pregnancies.
  • HypnoBirthing® works for all types of birth hospital, home birth or birthing centres. HypnoBirthing® helps all.
  • We can’t promise you a ‘perfect’ birth, but we can help you achieve a more comfortable, positive and relaxed birth experience

HypnoBirthing uses self-hypnosis, education and techniques to allow a woman during birth to be free from fear so that she can experience a relaxed, calm and more comfortable birth for her and her baby.
In HypnoBirthing, the person who accompanies the labouring mother and facilitates the state of calm and relaxation is called the birth companion. The birth companion’s role is of paramount importance in helping to assist a woman in labour.
We believe in promoting prenatal and perinatal bonding of the mother, father and baby and this takes place throughout pregnancy and labour.
HypnoBirthing was created by Marie F. Mongan. It is designed for healthy pregnant women and their birth companions.

Hypnosis...
Hypnosis is an induced state of relaxation. It allows access to a deeper part of the mind where positive changes can occur quickly to your thoughts and behaviour. A person is still consciously aware of their surroundings and fully in control.

Myths of hypnosis...
Hypnosis is a quick and effective way to create positive changes in thinking, habits and induces relaxation. It is safe when taught by a person qualified in the use of hypnosis.

  • Many myths arise surrounding hypnosis.
  • You cannot become stuck in hypnosis
  • You cannot reveal any information you do
    not wish to
  • You are not unconscious

What parents are saying:
“HypnoBirthing gave me a most priceless gift - a childbirth experience that was free of fear.”

“Nothing can describe the beauty of our birthing experience with HypnoBirthing. I never dreamed after having two children with another method that I could have so easy a labour.”

“Our daughter came into this world so much easier than either of us could have hoped for. With Godspeed, keep up the good work of HypnoBirthing.”

“The nurses said they had never seen a woman so calm, yet so strong. They couldn’t put the HypnoBirthing book down.”

Birth Stories
“How could I believe when I had gone through not one, but two long and excruciating labours? I was petrified. Then I found HypnoBirthing. This birth took 4 hours. I was relaxed and comfortable all the way. It was wonderful!”

“I was with my wife for the birth of our first child. It was a bad experience for us. Most of the techniques we practiced from the other course just weren’t there for us. HypnoBirthing was far more than we had even hoped for. Our daughter came into the world so easily and in such a calm atmosphere.”

“I kept telling myself all I would feel is pressure - and it works! That’s all I did feel. What a difference from my first labour!”

“I read of the advantages of self-hypnosis and relaxation in a magazine and set out to find a program that could teach me the method. I’m so happy I found HypnoBirthing! This was our first baby, and my active labour was only three hours from start to end. We were thrilled.”

Testimonial
“I wish everyone could have a positive birth experience just like I did. The breathing exercises I had practiced daily I found extremely useful during surges. The midwife also commented on how calm I was! HypnoBirthing gave me great confidence for the birth of my first baby.”

- Eleanor Shere, May 2008

"My second birth was quite possibly one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. I was under complete control. My contractions kept coming strong and fast. I walked up to the maternity ward with contractions 2 to 3 minutes apart. We did not even make it to the delivery ward. "

"The midwife and doctors just could not believe how quick and easy it all was, I just remember them saying as I was wheeled past the desk with my baby in my arms, 'I wish all of the births happened like that' "

- Anna Clucas, Sept 2008

"I had a low lying placenta but just completing the course kept me calm and relaxed during my pregnancy. Luckily it moved in time so I could have a natural birth. Doing the HypnoBirthing breathing during contractions was absolutely amazing.  I was 2cm dilated and after 30 minutes I noticed that the baby was moving downwards and I was examined again and was told I was 5cm dilated!  I went into the birthing pool and I was concentrating only on my breathing technique with each contraction. I was even doing better without gas and air.

The short labour and quick birth I had without medication lessened any further chance of distress during birth for my baby, so there was no need for any medical intervention."
